Handmade Fabric TeacosiesWelcome to Cosy Cosies - beautiful handmade fabric Teacosies

I’ve always made things. As a child I made blobby animals from clay in my mother’s pottery, and ill-fitting outfits for my teddies. Gradually, though, the animals became more recognisable, and my bears became visions of sartorial elegance, and I realised that I had a knack for designing things and putting them together. Eventually I moved away from clay altogether and embraced fabric as my medium of choice, making clothes and other things, mostly as gifts for friends and family, and soft furnishings for my home.

Recipients of my creative efforts have frequently remarked that the things I gave them (cushion covers, shirts, night-caps, tea cosies, and so on), were good enough to sell. So, I decided to put a few tea cosies in my sister-in-law's shop, The Cromarty Pottery, to complement the beautiful teapots she makes, and Cosy Cosies was born. I now make and sell a variety of beautiful, desirable and handmade Tea Cosies online, both in tradiional slip-over and more unusual wrap-around styles. They are ideal gifts for your family and friends.

I live and work in a very old sandstone house on the sea-front in Cromarty Fishertown in North East Scotland, with an old Rayburn in the large kitchen, with a lovely wee Jack Russell called Nellie by my desk for company, and a large gray snoozing cat called Douglas always around somewhere. Warmth and comfort are important to me, as I hope is reflected in the cosies I make. The colours and fabrics have been chosen to feel soft, and to look, well, cosy.

Who invented the Tea Cosy?

One popular theory goes that an Irish farmer in reaching across the dinner table accidentally dropped his hat from his head onto the teapot. When he later removed the hat he found that the tea was still nice and hot. His wife then decided to knit a purpose-made tea 'hat' for the pot, and she called this hat a 'cosy'.
